Choices in making out your will or changing your will range from:

• buying an off-the-shelf Wills package in a book-department store produced by e.g. Self Counsel Press (a well known publisher based in North Vancouver, BC);
• going to a Notary Public;
• going to a general practice lawyer;
• going to a lawyer with a stated "preferred area of practice" (a "specialist" in layman's language) in wills, trusts and estates administration work;

If you think there may be any possibility of dispute over your "final wishes" as stated in your will and/or how the estate or part of the estate is to be, or is currently being managed (e.g. as in a Trust) - we strongly recommend you do some research before drawing up the will.  The court costs involved in a legal dispute over a will may be charged against the estate, so its better to spend a little more money to find the appropriate way to have your will made.

PLUGGING THE LEAKS The condo saga continues, with some losing their homes, other seeing retirement plans wrecked

...leaky condos in Victoria.  More than five years after a provincial commission of inquiry dug into the issue, the faulty buildings are continuing to surface.

Renovation companies took out a total of $9.1 million in permits in the city last year to repair defective "building envelopes."  The sum was $6.5 million in the previous year and $5.688 million in 2001.  These costs do not include engineering and consulting fees that can triple the actual outlay by condo owners.

[The author of this article Malcolm Curtis further observes]  And after the leaks are fixed, sometimes at the expense of people having to give up their homes, a messy legal residue is left behind"... Lawsuits from condo owners against developers, builders, engineers, architects and municipalities have been flying...
